Barn Chores are Never Done

Corona Virus has us all being socially distant, but that is no excuse, Barn Chores are Never Done.

Thanks to the Coronavirus, us barn rats are over here continuing to practice social distancing. However, some of us have some extra time on our hands now that schools, businesses, and tack shops are closing to prevent spreading of the virus. So this is the perfect opportunity to spend more time in our happy place, and get all those odd and end barn chores completed. Barn chores never stop, so lets list a few tasks we can complete with some of the extra time we have on our hands, all while the rest of the US wastes time fighting over toilet paper, Lysol, and ground beef. Then, after reading through, list your ideas of some non-daily barn tasks we can complete during these next few weeks.

Barn Chores that Need Completing:

  • Deep cleaning feed tubs. Lets take a good scrub brush, and make those feed tubs shine. This may also be a perfect opportunity to replace any old/broken feed tubs with jagged edges or holes. We like these scrub brushes because of their range in sizes, perfect size for any feed tubs and water buckets.

  • Check your Emergency Box. NOW! It is a great time to check your emergency box, discard any outdated, expired, empty meds/supplies, and restock! Know what you need now, so when your vet comes to do their Spring/Summer vaccines you have a list and are ready to go! Don’t forget Banamine, Acepromazine, Bute, and SMZ’s are always staples to have on hand. As well as a working Thermometer, Self Adhering wraps, Gauze, Duct Tape, Band-aids and all of your supplies.
  • Doing Barn Laundry. You know all those fly sheets from last summer, all those heavy weight you aren’t using any more this Spring, those wraps and saddle pads that are still balled up from your last show or ride. Some of these nice spring days make for perfect drying days! We recommend our Blanket Safe products for all of your animal and horse wear needs. Our washes can be used on ANYTHING washable, and we also have a Wool & Fleece wash for your delicate fabrics, and a Fly Sheet Wash for those stain prone and hard to clean fabrics!

  • Power Washing Barn and Stall Mats. These have been the perfect day for a deep clean of the barn. Get out that pressure washers and get to it! Did you know that you could use a little bit of our Ultra Wash in your pressure washer for a deeper clean?
  • Cleaning and Conditioning Tack. Now is a great time to get out all your tack and start scrubbing! Start cleaning and conditioning your tack and boots for when shows start back up! We highly recommend Sterling Essentials Leather Conditioner and Cleaner. Find them at online at Sterling Essentials

  • Repairing Doors and Painting/ Touch-Ups. Keep your barn looking fresh, an easy way to do this is by touching up the barn every now and then with a little paint. Corners get worn from rubbing horses, barn doors get gnawed on. Keep it safe and fresh, by taking an hour to practice your painting skills, and do a little fixing and primping!
  • Hammering in Popped Nails. One of my favorite Spring activities, walking around the fence line and hammering in any popped nails. It is something so easy and so satisfying…and can save you hundreds of dollars in vet bills.

  • Scrubbing Water Buckets. Now, this is something that should be done daily, weekly, as much as possible…but for those of you that procrastinate, consider this your reminder. So what do you all use to scrub your water buckets/troughs? I tend to go in there with an old hard brush, however after a recent back surgery I prefer a toilet bowl brush (a NEW one….please, oh please dont use a used one! ). It adds a few inches to my arms and helps me get those extra inches without breaking my back bending over.

  • Cleaning out Brushes. All that dirt, dust and hair build up in brushes is kind of crazy! I highly recommend some baby shampoo and a scrub board. Then, go to town (figuratively, not literally …lol) on your brushes, while you have the chance!

  • Organizing your Tack Trunk. I don’t know about you, but this is something I am not good at! I take things out, toss things in, and everything becomes scrambled! It is time to toss all that stuff you don’t use, don’t need, and organize the stuff you have left. Ya know, those random bits, bobs, snaps, broken pieces.
  • Organizing and Accounting for all your Show/Travel/Trailer Supplies. Time to start digging through your travel trunk, and trailer. Recycle those empty water bottles, start refilling fly sprays and show-sheen, making sure you have extra halters, water buckets, sponges and scrapers (We like Equigroomer’s water wisk), water containers, show pads, extra coolers, standing wraps, boots, making sure all of your emergency contacts are correct, you name it!!

  • Gathering all your Clipper Blades. After all that clipping this Fall, Winter, and Spring, it is time to gather up any dull and dirty clipper blades and have them sent for a deep cleaning and sharpening!
  • Replacing Snaps that have Broken. We use snaps everywhere in a barn, from halters, to gates, feed buckets, stall doors, cross ties. Plus, it’s always helpful to have a handful of double ended snaps on hand!
  • Check your Electric Fence. Have you checked to see if your electric fence is functioning? Ask a non-horsey friend (you don’t mind losing) to stop over to the barn… you can do the rest. (LOL!)

Conclusion

I know we missed out on a TON of other things you can do in the barn, so help a pal out and comment what other chores need to be done, other than that which is to be done daily. It will give us all something to read through, chuckle at, and keep us smiling in this time of stress. And please, while you may not be able to get out, please don’t forget to support your online small businesses. @Bays4dayscrochet @stockbubble @Equistrings @Herd Of Zebras @Myst Equine Products @The Infused Equestrian @ Grey Horse Candle Co. just to name a few!

Thank you so much for reading along today, we hope you are able to step out of the chaos and into a place to relax and read with friends for a few. I hope to see some sparkling barns here soon!

Stay healthy friends, and have a Safe ride!

Welcome to Blanket Safe 2020

RugSafe USA, LLC dba Blanket Safe Welcome to Blanket Safe 2020. Blanket Safe Initiatives and Free Products

RugSafe USA, LLC dba Blanket Safe. Welcome to 2020. Blanket Safe planning, discounts, and things we love in 2020

Well friends, I guess we are officially full steam ahead into the new year! So welcome to Blanket Safe 2020! You may have noticed that during the Holiday Season, I took some time off from the blog posts to focus on family, and getting all holiday orders out as quickly as possible. 2020 has a lot in store for us, and we believe that this year will be just as amazing, if not more than in 2019! So, lets discuss some of the things that we loving and some of the things we have planned!

Women in Equestrian Business

First things first, we will be getting back to fan favorite posts focusing on all the amazing women behind the equestrian brands next week! We are super excited. These posts have really picked up, and we are getting lots of emails from brands asking to be a part of this project. Great news is, we will be posting as much as we can, as long as time permits! So if you or any women owned equestrian business are interested, please feel free to email me at info@blanketsafe.com, and I will send you the questionnaire. We love supporting other brands, other women, and sharing all the insight and behind the scenes with YOU!

2020 Initiative

Throughout 2020 we will be making some new initiatives with our Blanket Safe brand. In December you may have received an email giving the details, if you didn’t get an email I recommend you signing up. We only send emails when we have news to share, deals or discounts, or important information. We do not blow up your inbox, trust me I don’t have time to design pointless emails. Also, in signing up, you get $$$ to use on your first purchase, so it is totally worth it. But I digress, the December email described our new 2020 initiatives to be better for the environment, and more environmentally conscious.

To do this, we will be offering a FREE REFILL on 8oz concentrate bottles. (8oz concentrates make 32oz of ready to use solution, you just add the water). To get more information on the Mix It Yourself Sets, check here! Great news, as I am typing this…the Mix-it Yourself Set still comes with FREE SHIPPING! We will also allowing any 32oz ready to use wash purchased from one of our retailers to receive a free refill! Our retailers support us, and we love to support them! Please make sure to check our list of retailers to find one local to you, this list is always expanding! We want our bottles to be reused and would love if you could help us do our part for the environment! To find more information on how to get your FREE REFILL, check here!

Blanket Safe mix it yourself set. Just add water to your 8oz concentrate.

Buy a Bottle for a Cause

This Spring 2020 we will be releasing a special bottle! A portion of the proceeds from each purchase of this specific bottle will be donated to this organization. The organization that was chosen will be announced once everything has been finalized. I will say, that it was chosen based off of the suggestions from an Instagram Poll. This wash will have a different look, scent and color from the options we currently have available! They will only be available at blanketsafe.com.

Travels in 2020

We are asked all the time if we will be a vendor at any horse shows during the Spring, Summer and Fall. And the truth is, at this time we have no plans to be. Because one of our main business goals is to support our retailers, we do not want to be in direct competition with any of our retailers, as some of our retailers have mobile units.

We will however be at trade shows throughout the year. Our next one being in about 2 weeks in Philadelphia.

Things we are Loving

We want to thank everyone for all the support! We are loving the fact that customers, bloggers, and other small business like Blanket Safe are doing unpaid reviews, shout outs, before and afters, blog posts. At Blanket Safe, we spend a lot of time supporting and giving shout outs to many of the brands and women business owners we love! We would especially like to thank Barn Laundry of Cape Cod, Bays 4 Days Crochet, and The $900 Facebook Pony. It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a hardcore equestrian community to build an equestrian business, so thank you ladies for all the love!

Another thing I am crushing on right now, and I can’t get off my mind is this…so I thought I would share with you! So the other day I was scrolling through Amazon as I do while waiting for kids to go to sleep, and what did I find? This Gorgeous horse pendant! I love jewelry that is dainty, timeless, and I can wear without thinking it may turn colors! But, I’m not a huge yellow gold fan….I continued to dig and found one that was Sterling Silver for much much cheaper! So, I ordered it! Happy January to me!

Conclusion

So once again, Welcome to Blanket Safe 2020! I hope your 2019 ended with a bang, and your 2020 has gotten off to an awesome start! Don’t forget to take advantage of our free refills and our free shipping on the Mix It Yourself Sets!! Thank you for all the love in 2019, and for your continued support in 2020! Don’t forget to join us next week for another Women in Equestrian Business! Who will it be this time?! I can’t wait to see!

Much Love, and best Wishes for Safe and Happy Rides,

Laura & The Blanket Safe Team
