RugSafe USA, LLC dba Blanket Safe Welcome to Blanket Safe 2020. Blanket Safe Initiatives and Free Products

RugSafe USA, LLC dba Blanket Safe. Welcome to 2020. Blanket Safe planning, discounts, and things we love in 2020

Well friends, I guess we are officially full steam ahead into the new year! So welcome to Blanket Safe 2020! You may have noticed that during the Holiday Season, I took some time off from the blog posts to focus on family, and getting all holiday orders out as quickly as possible. 2020 has a lot in store for us, and we believe that this year will be just as amazing, if not more than in 2019! So, lets discuss some of the things that we loving and some of the things we have planned!

Women in Equestrian Business

First things first, we will be getting back to fan favorite posts focusing on all the amazing women behind the equestrian brands next week! We are super excited. These posts have really picked up, and we are getting lots of emails from brands asking to be a part of this project. Great news is, we will be posting as much as we can, as long as time permits! So if you or any women owned equestrian business are interested, please feel free to email me at info@blanketsafe.com, and I will send you the questionnaire. We love supporting other brands, other women, and sharing all the insight and behind the scenes with YOU!

2020 Initiative

Throughout 2020 we will be making some new initiatives with our Blanket Safe brand. In December you may have received an email giving the details, if you didn’t get an email I recommend you signing up. We only send emails when we have news to share, deals or discounts, or important information. We do not blow up your inbox, trust me I don’t have time to design pointless emails. Also, in signing up, you get $$$ to use on your first purchase, so it is totally worth it. But I digress, the December email described our new 2020 initiatives to be better for the environment, and more environmentally conscious.

To do this, we will be offering a FREE REFILL on 8oz concentrate bottles. (8oz concentrates make 32oz of ready to use solution, you just add the water). To get more information on the Mix It Yourself Sets, check here! Great news, as I am typing this…the Mix-it Yourself Set still comes with FREE SHIPPING! We will also allowing any 32oz ready to use wash purchased from one of our retailers to receive a free refill! Our retailers support us, and we love to support them! Please make sure to check our list of retailers to find one local to you, this list is always expanding! We want our bottles to be reused and would love if you could help us do our part for the environment! To find more information on how to get your FREE REFILL, check here!

Blanket Safe mix it yourself set. Just add water to your 8oz concentrate.

Buy a Bottle for a Cause

This Spring 2020 we will be releasing a special bottle! A portion of the proceeds from each purchase of this specific bottle will be donated to this organization. The organization that was chosen will be announced once everything has been finalized. I will say, that it was chosen based off of the suggestions from an Instagram Poll. This wash will have a different look, scent and color from the options we currently have available! They will only be available at blanketsafe.com.

Travels in 2020

We are asked all the time if we will be a vendor at any horse shows during the Spring, Summer and Fall. And the truth is, at this time we have no plans to be. Because one of our main business goals is to support our retailers, we do not want to be in direct competition with any of our retailers, as some of our retailers have mobile units.

We will however be at trade shows throughout the year. Our next one being in about 2 weeks in Philadelphia.

Things we are Loving

We want to thank everyone for all the support! We are loving the fact that customers, bloggers, and other small business like Blanket Safe are doing unpaid reviews, shout outs, before and afters, blog posts. At Blanket Safe, we spend a lot of time supporting and giving shout outs to many of the brands and women business owners we love! We would especially like to thank Barn Laundry of Cape Cod, Bays 4 Days Crochet, and The $900 Facebook Pony. It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a hardcore equestrian community to build an equestrian business, so thank you ladies for all the love!

Another thing I am crushing on right now, and I can’t get off my mind is this…so I thought I would share with you! So the other day I was scrolling through Amazon as I do while waiting for kids to go to sleep, and what did I find? This Gorgeous horse pendant! I love jewelry that is dainty, timeless, and I can wear without thinking it may turn colors! But, I’m not a huge yellow gold fan….I continued to dig and found one that was Sterling Silver for much much cheaper! So, I ordered it! Happy January to me!

Conclusion

So once again, Welcome to Blanket Safe 2020! I hope your 2019 ended with a bang, and your 2020 has gotten off to an awesome start! Don’t forget to take advantage of our free refills and our free shipping on the Mix It Yourself Sets!! Thank you for all the love in 2019, and for your continued support in 2020! Don’t forget to join us next week for another Women in Equestrian Business! Who will it be this time?! I can’t wait to see!

Much Love, and best Wishes for Safe and Happy Rides,

Women in Equestrian Business- Melodie Weintraut

RugSafe USA, llc dba Blanket Safe features Melodie Weintraut Bays4DaysCrochet
Melodie Weintraut of Bays4DaysCrochet by RugSafe USA, llc dba Blanket Safe

I am so excited to feature this next amazing boss lady in our Women in Equestrian Business post. Melodie Weintraut, like myself is a mom, a girlfriend to her awesome husband and a professional adult amateur. She works her booty off as a professional poultry inspector, and has grown a successful and creative business, Bays4DaysCrochet. PHEW!

I met Melodie a few years ago. Outside of the business world; her positive, realistic, down-to-earth personality was a breath of fresh air! Now my horse is decked out in his gorgeous grey, black and bling bonnet. All of her products are made to order, to match your colors, your horse, and your style. Melodie has such a fun spunky style, this post is sure to relate to you, make you giggle, and/or make you scratch your head. Either way make sure to check her gorgeous pieces of work out at Bays4DaysCrochet, she wont disappoint!

About Bays4DaysCrochet

While Melodie waited to land her first “big girl job”; she taught her self to crochet (thanks to YouTube). She took that new found love of crocheting to make her own horse bonnet design. Melodie’s logo however was created by her husband. After a rough day at Grad School, he created this Tim Burton-esque picture of Quincy (her heart horse). After mastering her own pattern, she released Quincy to strut his stuff down the barn aisle…and if you’ve seen the bonnets Melodie creates, it is no wonder that barn friends now had bonnet envy! Melodie’s style is unique and her pattern and logo are 100% her own. She makes that entire bonnet without making a single cut (besides the final cut).

While Melodie claims she isn’t the “typical” people person; she can definitely strike up a connection with pretty much anyone who talks about animals. She loves talking to people who are designing their bonnet, discovering colors they love, what colors bring out the eyes of their chestnut mare, adding personalized ears, and grasping the ideas of what you as a horse owner, lover, and rider would dream of if you are to get a bonnet. However, it wasn’t all horses, unicorns and pink bonnets. Melodie noticed that other creators were pricing themselves very low. However, while Melodie’s prices would not be that low, her prices reflect the hand made work, dedication, and passion that she crochets into every inch of the bonnets she creates.

Melodie realizes that not everyone appreciates the justification of her reasoning, but she believes that while money doesn’t grow on trees, her time, quality and customization doesn’t either. In 5 years, Melodie would love to see some her teens/young adult audience sporting her bonnets at some major shows. “It would be so cool to hop on Facebook Groups, Eventing Nation, etc and seeing a pair going out, being successful, and wearing my product”. But before then, if her amazing bonnets can just continue to pay her monthly feed bill, she will continue to do a happy dance.

About Melodie Weintraut

Melodie, her family and her business are all based on Maryland’s beautiful Eastern Shore #madeinMD. She has always loved horses, however didn’t start riding until she was about 18, her Freshman year of college. Currently she is dancing around the sandbox with her OTTB, Hokie (yes….a good old VT Grad), and Pixie, her 11 year old Oldenburg pony. Along with her 2 equine friends, she raises rabbits, has 3 dogs and 2 cats! Melodie is totally a unique chick, not only is she down to earth, but she is also honest…to a fault. If you don’t want her honest opinion about your horse, don’s ask her for her thoughts #warning.

Let’s Get a Little Personal with Melodie Weintraut

What is something not everyone knows about you? Melodie applied to vet school 15 times, over the course of 3 admission cycles, Not once was she asked to sit for an interview.

What is something you would tell your younger self? “I’d tell myself not to worry so much about things. I used to have anxiety with my old horse, about things that hadn’t happened/things that never came to pass. Looking back, I should have just ridden the horse I had”. Other than that, she would also tell her younger self to not put up with bully trainers.

What mantra you live by? Don’t focusing so much on making a living, that you forget to make a life.

What is the last show you binge watched? “I don’t watch a whole lot of TV, but I am currently listening to Crime Junkie, and Up and Vanished podcasts.”

What is the last book you read? She’s not sure. “Other than baby books for my adorable daughter. Other than that, no clue.”

What is your favorite word? Tedious

What profession other than your own would you attempt for a week? A Veterinarian

What is your favorite food? Wawa Soft Pretzels and Pepsi

How do you take your Coffee? With a LOT of International Delight Creamer #butt-ton

What is something you want people to remember about your brand? There is a real human, mom boss, behind the bonnet that makes your horse looks amazing! Melodie is the only one, crocheting the body, tucking in the ends, sewing on that bling, and cutting out the ears and vinyl, and pressing it on. A real person is messaging you back and forth about time lines so you can get your bonnet in time for your big show.

In Conclusion with Melodie Weintraut of Bays4DaysCrochet

Melodie is no stranger to working hard, facing setbacks, and changing dreams; so she has become used to the idea that maybe the universe is trying to tell her something. Instead of making her dreams a possibility, she makes your bonnet dreams a possibility. She handcrafts and designs each one from scratch and Melodie puts her heart, her love, and her best wishes into each custom bonnet for your horse. Never once has she been afraid of failure, but faced it head on and made a decision to continue on. If you haven’t met Melodie, or seen her designs you are missing out. I can tell you from experience, when putting one of her bonnets on your horse, you will be proud; just like she is with each of her products she mails you with love.

We hope you join us next time for another look inside the life of another woman behind an amazing equestrian brand. Discover her dream and the adventure she has experienced. Until then, find more posts like this one, HERE.

Frequently Asked Questions

Blanket Safe's Frequently Asked Questions
Blanket Safe Horse Blanket Detergents, Frequently Asked Questions

Discover the answers to some of Blanket Safe’s most frequently asked questions. Many of the questions asked are easily answered on BlanketSafe.com, however, let’s dive into some of these questions, and get you answers quickly! If you think of a question that is not here, please contact us. Let us know your question…and you never know, your question may get featured on this page!

How many washes can you get out of a 32oz bottle?

Our washes are done by loads, not by amount of blankets. It is recommended to use 6oz-8oz of wash per load. More or less depending on the amount of blankets being washed in the machine, and amount of soiling. While we say you can use more or less as needed, we never recommend more than 8oz of wash. Therefore, you should get at least 4 loads of wash completed.

As a reference, I only use approximately 4-6oz of soap per laundry load. I am able to wash: 2 average size heavy weights, or 3 average size mediums, or 4-5 average size light weight blankets in the machine at a time. So therefore, I am able to get 5-8 loads of wash done with a 32oz bottle.

How many blankets does a 32oz bottle of Spray-On Water-repellent treat?

It should treat at least 4 blankets. It greatly depends on the size of the blanket you are treating, and since everyone has a range of blanket sizes, it is hard to be specific. Blankets should be freshly clean, and damp (but not soaking wet, as you don’t want your solution running off) when being used. Spray onto the blanket until thoroughly coated, let dry and cure…which may take up to 72 hours to achieve full results. Then store away for the season until ready to use.

Does the Fly Sheet Wash have fly repelling properties?

NO. The fly sheet wash is different than our regular Zesty Lemon wash as it has added natural cleaning boosters. We were able to add these cleaning boosters since fly sheets do not have a water-repelling treatment which we work so hard to protect with our regular washes. Fly sheets are also challenging to get clean, so we have added a natural, gentle dirt cleaning booster made of soy. There are NO peroxides, NO bleaches, NO whiteners, NO “oxygen” powered boosters. Washing in cold water is still recommended, as we recommend with all pet/horse wear. Our fly sheet spray however, is a fly repellent that works by spraying directly onto the fly sheet.

*We have not tested this product on turnout sheets or blankets with waterproofing. While we believe it would be safe, we do not recommend.

What kind of horse or pet wear can I wash?

(Almost) Anything that is washable, by hand or by machine can be washed in Blanket Safe. It can be safely used on fly sheets, horse blankets (stable and turnouts), wraps, boots, washable girths, saddle pads, fly masks, your blankets, fleece and wool, dog beds, your cloths, it can be added to spot cleaners and you can clean your truck carpets. The uses are endless, want to put in a spray bottle and use as a fabric cleaner…go for it.

Once dry, Blanket Safe is considered hypoallergenic. We understand that horses are always trying to prove us wrong, and we always have that one horse that is allergic to the air it breathes, so we like to say “considered” for that one rare horse.

How can I get better results when washing at home?

Check out this article . This quick read will break down how we recommend using Blanket Safe and washing.

How Can I wash my Horse Wear?

You can wash your horse wear by hand or by machine. We find that it works best in an industrial strength machine that can be found at a laundromat. (please be considerate, spray off any excess dirt or mud before using a laundromat). On a positive note, the anti-bacterial properties of Blanket Safe works to clean the machine as well after use.

Some people may chose to wash horse wear by hand, or in a muck tub. I suggest using this awesome tool HERE to help you do that!!

Will my Horse Blanket be Waterproof after using Blanket Safe

Depends on what you consider Waterproof. Blanket Safe products are designed to treat breathable fabrics, and keep those breathable fabrics functioning. We do not use wax or silicone ingredients, so what our products do is coat the individual fiber, rather than coating the entire fabric as a whole (like a shell).

Because blankets are made from breathable fabric, it makes waterproofing VERY Difficult, and pretty impossible if treated with the correct product, and safely. What Blanket Safe products will do is increase the amount of time that a horse blanket can be in the wet before the blanket starts absorbing water. While the top layer may appear wet, most turn out blankets are also equip with an inner waterproof barrier to help slow the process. Blanket Safe products will help to keep that barrier intact as well. We like to relate the waterproofing of a horse blanket, to that of a fire door. A fire door is NOT fireproof, but it will increase the amount of time you have to get out in an emergency situation, before that door is engulfed.

Women in Equestrian Business – Cheryl Dauphin

RugSafe USA, llc dba Blanket Safe features Cheryl Dauphin with EquiGroomer
Cheryl Dauphin of EquiGroomer by RugSafe USA, LLC and Blanket Safe products! Learning more about behind the scenes

The next of our Women in Equestrian Business will not disappoint! I am so excited not only about this wonderful lady, but I sing the praises about this product daily! By the end of this post I hope you feel that you personally know Cheryl Dauphin, just as much as you will recognize her colorful, vibrant, and perfect barn and home tool!

At the beginning of 2018, I personally met Cheryl and her made-by-hand products. Since then they have not only been a staple in our barn for all of our horses….but also in our home AND in my business. The EquiGroomers often have a way of wandering off in the business (it just so happens that most of the awesome ladies that work with me, also have horses, dogs, cats, rabbits too!) Cheryl has also changed the way my pets and animals view grooming time.

About THE EquiGroomer

After Cheryl Dauphin retired as independent graphic designer, she decided to devote her time to her horse and improving her riding skills. In doing so, she realized her horse’s skin was very sensitive to the large teeth of a shedding tool. Shedding stones work for a little while, but Cheryl realized they did not last long, and were really messy. This left Cheryl in a predicament…but not for long! Tenaciously she came up with a prototype of the EquiGroomer and also eventually designed the logo. She tried it on her horse with great success and allowed other lucky barn members to try it too.

What makes this product completely unique, (and why it has been such a hit around our home, barn, and business) is that Cheryl has designed this tool to be similar to how a cat’s tongue grooms fur. The blade itself does not remove hair by friction or pulling hair out. In fact, the little teeth only remove scaly, dead hairs. Plus, the teeth of this blade are so petite that they do not actually touch the skin. Yet they are still long enough to bring the natural oils found at the root of the hair, up through the hair to help with coat and fur heath. The groomer’s colors are bright and cheerful. The wooden handle is painted with 3 coats of exterior grade paint making it impervious to bacteria, and an epoxy finish is applied to the blade which wards off rust and prevents dulling.

It is clear that Cheryl has taking all efforts to make the EquiGroomer tools the epitome of perfection. While Cheryl thoroughly enjoys showing off her products, describing the benefits, demonstrating the use, and connecting with customers….selling is not her strong suit. Cheryl mentions she does not enjoy cold calling or making sales over the phone, which frankly is not that uncommon! However, what makes up for that, is a schedule that she loves. She balances time manufacturing and her business related tasks, with her time in the barn. Cheryl has been in business for slightly over 5 years, and in that time has designed her brand to focus on customer satisfaction, quality of products, and happy pets. She feels that there is no need to change that for the next happy 5 years.

Behind the Equigroomer with Blanket Safe a Rug Safe USA, LLC product.

About Cheryl Dauphin

Cheryl and her business headquarters are located in Glastonbury Connecticut, and her products are manufactured locally. Labels, wrapping, and shipping of the EquiGroomer are all done by hand by Cheryl. She also finds time to juggle marketing and customer relations, all before heading to the barn. While it may be hard to pick favorites, Cheryl’s favorite is the 5″ EquiGroomer. It has made so many pet owners live’s easier and so many fur babies happier during grooming time. We asked Cheryl when she first fell in love with horses. It turns out, there wasn’t a time where she lacked the fascination and desire to ride.

Her mother recently discovered an old slide of Cheryl on the back of a horse, she was probably about 3 years old at the time. As a child, she took many summer vacations to her grandparents in Maine, and she would beg for the neighbors to pony her around on their horse. The first books she remembers reading are Misty of Chincoteague and Black Beauty. There is no exact time when the passion began, but the journey continues with her 12 year old registered Holsteiner, Clifford. This show jumper is now enjoying his retired life and lighter riding after an injury, but that doesn’t get Cheryl down. Optimist Cheryl welcomed the change of pace, and now she and Clifford enjoy trail rides and spending relaxing days together.

Blanket Safe designed horse blanket bag label, customize for your company, horse blanket repair, laura's blanket repair, customize business solutions, Equigroomer, to help remove hair

Let’s Get a Little Personal with Cheryl Dauphin

What is something not everyone knows about you? I love being the center of attention, but if given the option of going to a party OR relaxing on the couch…I would choose the latter!

What is something you would tell your younger self? Don’t worry so much about what others think of you, what is really important is how you think of yourself! Too much time is wasted on things that don’t truly matter.

What is a Mantra you live by? Don’t sweat the small stuff!

What was the last show you binge watched? American Pickers…don’t ask why I find that show so entertaining. I sat through what may have been 4 hours of repeats and still enjoyed watching it!

What is the last book you read? Twelve Years a Slave

What’s your favorite word? Indeed

What profession other than your own would you attempt for a week? I’ve tried a number of things in the past, everything from retail sales, landscape designer, even seminar instructor. However, I think I would love to try to be a Pet Adoption Coordinator at a no kill shelter.

What is your favorite food? Popcorn, Popcorn, Popcorn! If I had my choice I would eat it for dinner….every day of the week, I would! I love Popcorn!

How do you take your Coffee? I take my morning Starbuck’s Espresso black with one Splenda.

What is something you want people to remember about your brand? Each EquiGroomer or WaterWisk is assembled by hand, made locally, and uses the highest quality materials available. I hand label and wrap each one, and I am solely responsible for customer relations, shipping, marketing. There is pride and love that goes into each EquiGroomer. It makes me feel even better when I know that every “hooman” that uses the brush on their animals is not only improving the grooming experience, but also increasing the quality time they spend with their pets.

In Conclusion with Cheryl Dauphin of EquiGroomer

We have really enjoyed getting to know Cheryl, and learning about the outpouring of positivity and love that goes into her life and products. It is amazing how similar we all are regardless of background, jobs, or location. In learning more about these awesome ladies, it reminds me that we are all in this equestrian world together! Like I mentioned before, at Blanket Safe we use these products daily for not only horse and pet grooming, but also removing excess hair from saddle pads and fleece. Frankly, next time I pick up my EquiGroomer or WaterWisk, I will have more appreciation of the time, care, love, and passion that went into it!

We hope you join us next time for another inside look at another equestrian business woman’s dream and business adventure! Until then, find more blogs like this HERE

myMareCo Head Bands on Blanket Safe by RugSafe USA, LLC for Equestrian Gift Guide

Don’t tell me you don’t get sweaty under that helmet! These moisture-wicking headbands are wide and thin to keep not only hair off your sweaty face, but to keep sweat from dripping down your face (which ultimately cause streaks as it creates lines from where the dust from the ring has already dried to your sweaty face…OH, c’mon….don’t tell me you don’t have that problem!) Anyways, these headbands are also light weight, they easily fit under your helmet. But, don’t just wear them under a helmet! Wear them to the gym, to pilates, out to lunch with the bestie! They are super cute! BUT WAIT, the best part…this 2 set of black headbands, under $9, YES….FOR BOTH! Another fantastic part, they don’t just come in black! Want colors? They have that too! A 4 Pack is under $17! These are unbelievable. Women in Equestrian Business – Carly Prosser

RugSafe USA, llc dba Blanket Safe features Carly Prosser of Cavali Club Box
Women in Equestrian Business Series Features Carly Prosser of Cavali Club

We are so excited to start out our series of “Women in Equestrian Business”, and we are leading off this series with a BANG! Most of you may not know Carly Prosser, but I hope you all know Cavali Club….and my goal is that you all feel like Carly’s besties by the end of this post.

We were fortunate enough to insta-meet Carly in Spring 2019, and this amazing lady blew us away. We are lucky to have her as a fellow equestrian colleague with her fun, outgoing, vivacious personality. But Carly Prosser is way more than just Cavali Club, and we are so excited that she has allowed us to snoop inside her life; and her likes, dislikes, and hidden secrets about herself and her business!

A Little About The Cavali Club

Carly Prosser hails from Atlanta Georgia, where her business is also based. She started Cavali Club after purchasing her first horse Rudy. Being completely underwhelmed by the brands available at the large equestrian retailers, she felt that a subscription box which incorporated many of the innovative brands she had been finding on Instagram would be amazing! However, she couldn’t find such a thing….so she started it herself! Carly helps brands to emerge in the equestrian community, and allows every day equestrians to discover brands they may not have known about. Cavali Club continues to successfully meet their business mission by “Introducing equestrians everywhere to their new favorite products, while lifting up our fellow equestrian businesses in the process”.

Cavali Club’s logo and brand are polished, yet relate-able. The name came about because of the Italian word for Horses and the idea of creating a community around the box itself. However, Carly faced one problem. There is a popular night club in Dubai named “Cavalli Club”, but typical Carly, she didn’t let that stand in the way. She figured dropping that extra “L” would make her unique and cool! Plus, for those that just can’t spell the awesome club’s name anyway…she get’s tagged in their posts! In 5 years she hopes to grow and increase diversity of the memberships within N. America. She would like to add customization’s to the subscription experience based on the discovery platform, and make it perfect for every equestrian, regardless of discipline or location. Eventually, Carly hopes to start testing the idea in the European market.

The business of Cavali Club has not always been so easy. Because the subscription has so many facets, it can be very logistically challenging. Because of juggling and balancing timelines, education, technology, and so many more problems, it hasn’t been an easy road. However, what was easy for Carly, was connecting with fellow equestrian businesses, and conveying the excitement of the concept of the box itself. She quickly realized that the excitement about her product was contagious.

A Little about Carly Prosser

Carly began in the equestrian world, as an equestrian herself. For as long as she can remember, she loved horses….and it may have all began during her first riding experience at a dude ranch in Montana when she was three. She never owned horses growing up, but as far as she can remember…has always loved horses! It wasn’t until Carly was in her 20’s that she could finally purchase her first of two amazing horses, Rudy. He is a 16 year old tb/Oldenburg cross, dressage horse. Then there is 3 year old Monty, the next dressage prospect. Carly however may have always loved horses, but didn’t start out in an equestrian business. She actually started her career at a digital marketing startup. In fact, she credit’s that job to making her savvy and scrappy when it comes to advertising, which has really been an instrumental skill in growing Cavali Club.

So let’s get a little personal with Carly!

What is something Not Everyone Knows about You? I’m a history nerd…I’m also obsessed with Ken Burns documentaries.

What would you tell your younger self? Relax. You’ll end up exactly where you want to be.

Do you have a mantra you live by? “If you don’t risk something, then you’ll never gain anything”

What is the last show you binge watched? “Ken Burns’ Country Music docu-series. …Did I mention I’m a nerd for his documentaries?”

What is the last book you read? Shoe Dog by Phil Knight

What is your favorite word? “YES!”

What profession other than your own would you attempt for a week? “I’d Like to shadow a commercial airline pilot, because I have so many questions! I don’t actually want to fly the plane, I just want to hang out in the cockpit and ask questions”

What is a food you could NOT live without? Sushi…or Japanese cuisine in general!

How do you like your Coffee? Two packets of stevia and vanilla soy milk.

What is something you want people to remember about you and your brand? Cavali Club is the go-to platform for how equestrians everywhere research and discover products for horse and rider.

In Conclusion with Carly Prosser of Cavali Club

We hope you have realized that Cavali Club is more than just an amazing box offering new, up and coming brands, and helping equestrians everywhere discover brands they have never laid their hands on! Cavali Club was discovered because of one brave woman’s tenacious equestrian journey. It wasn’t all easy, but it surely was all worth it. We hope that you can relate to this amazing woman behind the scenes, and that you got to experience a brief look inside her life.

We hope you join us next time for another inside look at another equestrian business woman’s dream and business adventure! Until then, find more blogs like this HERE

Get Your Horse Blankets Cleaner

How to get Horse Blankets Cleaner with Blanket Safe Horse Blanket Washes and Soaps. Blanket Safe Horse Blanket Services, Blanket Safe Horse Blanket hardware

Over the course of a week, I get many messages asking “How can I get my horse blankets cleaner?” or “How can I get better results?” So let’s discuss ways you can get your horse blankets cleaner! First, have you checked out this post on how we suggest caring for your horse blankets and pet wear? If not, check it out HERE but make sure you come back to finish this one too! If you have read that, and you’re still scratching your head…keep reading.

Best Ways to get your Pet Wear Cleaner

Wash your pet wear as soon after your pet wear is soiled or removed for the season. Leaving urine, mud, and grime set into fabrics only makes it harder to remove residues once dry. Also, leaving urine and mud on a horse blanket will only degrade the fabric AND the factory applied waterproofing. If weather is still not steady, try hosing off dirt, manure, grime. Then wash when weather is steady enough to fully wash, waterproof and put away for the season.

Use a washing machine that is large enough and strong enough. If your machine isn’t large enough or strong enough for your horse wear to move, and scrub , you’re not going to get it super clean. There needs to be enough space in the machine for your horse wear or pet wear to move around and allow water and soap to get into all the folds, as well as to allow all the water and soap to escape. A good hint that the machine may be too small, or over crowded is if you notice marbling or streaks of dirt that remain after washing. Try washing off your horse wear with a hose and a gentle scrub brush before washing in a household machine.

If you notice stains before washing, or have spots that did not come clean. Rewashing is typically not needed if your machine is strong and large enough. But even if your horse wear is getting washed as soon as possible…sometimes stains or tough spots are inevitable. If you have known stains, make sure you pre-treat the spot with a little soap, scrub it in and let it sit for a few minutes. If, when you remove an item you find that you have marks, try applying soap to the area while wet, scrub, and wash before it dries. It is important to know that we do not consider Blanket Safe a stain fighter. Many of the harsh chemicals in normal detergents or stain fighters have been removed from our products to allow them to be safe for the waterproofing, and animal. Try pre-treating or re-treating, gentle scrubbing and washing/rewash.

Dirt remaining in webbing nooks and stitching. In the grand scheme of things this isn’t a big deal. However to get these areas cleaner or whiter on some of the webbing there are somethings that can be done. Usually, a gentle power washing of the binding, webbing, or straps will work to remove any ground in dirt, grime and manure. **Please note, this is not a suggestion to power wash the entire blanket. Doing so may ruin fabric and waterproofing.

Make sure you’re using Blanket Safe. Blanket Safe is unlike many other horse blanket washes. Designed specifically for horse wear and pet wear, Blanket Safe is a safe and effective alternative to laundry detergents or chemicals. It is a unique wash that safely cleans without harsh chemicals. Blankets and animals need specialty care, as to not irritate skin, ruin fabric, eliminate waterproofing. But washes must still effectively remove odors, dirt, and grime. Blanket Safe works best on the modern day fabrics used for pet wear, odors and waterproofing, without having to use more soap than expected, and without causing damage. Plus, sensitive skinned animals are safe with Blanket Safe! Try using Blanket Safe in cold water for best results, and using while dirt, and grime are fresh. Why Blanket Safe?

Why use Blanket Safe Soaps, Horses of Blanket Safe Products

We love getting questions and giving answers. One of the most popular questions we receive is “Why Blanket Safe?” So today, lets talk about the WHY, not the what, where, when, or how. Let’s dive into the grossness that horse blankets are, and learn the WHY behind Blanket Safe products, and the why not behind other products. After all many products are not for horse blankets. Just because word “Horse” is slapped on a product with a 30% price increase, it doesn’t make that product safe or effective for horse wear…but it happens.

Each one of Blanket Safe’s unique properties are specifically included, for a purpose. If you want more information on our product’s washing characteristics, check it out here! However, today we are talking about Blanket Safe products as a whole and why they are so different, so lets begin.

Why Blanket Safe? Why Not?

So imagine this for a second, that pair of underwear you are wearing right now…yes, that exact pair…you need to wear them for 6months straight. No, they will not be washed, you must wear them 24/7 for the next 6 months. After that 6 months is up, you can wash them….but only in your choice of toothpaste or hand soap. Yes, that is correct, NO Laundry detergents! Then you can put them away for a few months, but then, once again…you must put them back on for another 6 months straight. What do you think of that? What did you say? “Gross?” Why is that gross? It is the same thing you are doing to your horse blanket if you wash in laundry detergent or any products not specifically designed for a horse blanket! Mind blowing right?

In many cases horse blankets are worn 24/7, unless removed for a quick ride, before being thrown right back on. And, this is done for anywhere from 4-7 months a year, possibly more depending on your location. They live in them, they sweat in them, they roll in them, they go out in all weather conditions, and yes they get urine and manure on them too! The bacteria growth is disgusting, and is often the cause of that stench your blanket gives off. Are you still asking “Why Blanket Safe?” Ok, let me ask you then, would you wash your hands in car soap? Would you wash your dishes with tooth paste? Or use Mouth Wash for your Laundry? Would you wash your car with hand soap? And why not? Because those washes were not designed to clean that type of item. This is the same for horse blankets.

Why Not Laundry Detergents?

Laundry detergents don’t do the job needed for a horse blanket. A laundry detergent can ruin the integrity of your horse blanket, the fabric and the waterproofing. Plus…it won’t clean out the build up of grossness and bacteria, and it will make applying an appropriate water-repellent nearly impossible. There have been “horse blanket washes” on the market for 40 years, however, do you realized the amount of changes horse blankets have gone through in those years? From canvas, to modern day blends and nylons. Plus, take a look what those washes were created for. When was the last time your canvas tent rolled in manure, or was lived in by a horse? So, when people come to me and ask why other products don’t work…it’s because they are not designed to work with horse blankets. Hence putting “Horse” on a product, and charging you more.

Why is Blanket Safe Different?

Blanket Safe is designed to be effective on modern day horse blanket fabrics, to clear out bacteria, and designed to wash common “substances” found on a horse blanket. It is created to be safe for not only the blanket, the waterproofing, and breathability, but also for the horse’s skin. Blanket Safe washes are residue free, and do not use harmful chemicals. Also, our scents are light as to not reodorize, but to remove odors from the source. Blanket Safe Soaps are not stain removers, they do not beach whites or use any oxy-power, and they do not brighten colors. Blanket Safe boosts color and shine by conditioning the fibers that get frayed, worn and dull looking, during rolling and rubbing. Once your item is washed in one of our Blanket Safe products and dried, your item will be safe for kids, dogs, cats, and horses to roll on.

Still not Convinced?

Ask those individuals that use our products. Some of those individuals are the same ones that realized the consequences of washing in an inappropriate detergent or soap. There’s the horse that had an allergic skin reaction to the products they washed their leg wraps in. Or the owner that removed her horses saddle pad, and also removed the horses hair right off of his back. Let’s not forget the fly sheet that created bleach marks on areas where the fly sheet touched the horse’s body. Don’t forget that wonderful client looking for a wash that wouldn’t cause her elderly dog to scratch his fur out during horse shows when she would put horse blankets out for him to lay on. The problem was, she couldn’t find anything that wouldn’t cause him to itch like crazy. Those are only some of the problems we have heard.

Let’s Sum this Up

Why Blanket Safe? Nothing compares to pulling out a fresh smelling, clean horse blanket or pet item from the washing machine. Especially one that you know the dirt, sweat and grime are removed, but also the bacteria buildup that causes odors. All this done without harmful chemicals that can ruin fabric, waterproofing, and also irritate your horse or your pet’s skin. A product that is specifically created for this purpose. So my question to you, Are you using Blanket Safe yet?

If no, WHY NOT? If you are ready to get started subscribe for deals, and get a discount on your first purchase!

Horse Blanket Care Myths

Horse Blanket Care Myths

We keep a close eye on horse forums so we can learn how we can educate people to take better care of their horse gear. It is never the intent to jump on the forums and tell someone they are wrong, but we do want to clear and air and explain some myths about horse blanket care that we often see.

Popular Horse Blanket Care Myths:

Don’t wash your horse blanket in any products, only wash in water but you must use hot water to kill bacteria. In our opinion, the water in your washing machine will not get hot enough to kill all the bacteria in your horse blanket. What it does kill is your waterproofing. You should avoid washing your horse gear in hot water at all costs.

Don’t wash your horse blanket. It is better off if you leave it as it is throughout the years.”

This statement likely came from someone who accidentally destroyed their horse blanket in the washing machine. The urine, manure, grime, and dirt that build up on a horse blanket will also deteriorate blanket fabric very quickly. It is essential to wash your horse blanket, but you must do it properly to avoid damage. How To Wash and Care for your Horse Blanket

“Use canvas or tent cleaner on your horse blanket

Often times these are way too heavy for modern day fabrics, and will leave a residue behind that can irritate your horse’s skin. They also don’t get rid of odors because these cleaners don’t kill bacteria, which is the source of the stink on your horse blanket. When these washes were popular, so were canvas blankets, however in 2019 canvas blankets are not as common as they once were. Think about it, when was the last time a tent or awning was worn on an animal for 4-6 months out of the year, urinated on, rolled in, sweated in? They are not made for washing these kind of things, so they really do not work as well as they should.

Use warm or hot water for the soap to work

Some blanket washes and laundry detergents instruct you to use warm or hot water with your blanket. If your blanket label tells you to wash with cold water, you should follow those instructions. Hot water will destroy the blanket’s natural waterproofing, reduce the longevity of your blanket, and deteriorate the fabric.

Use a deodorizer on a stinky blanket if the smell does not come out in the wash

I don’t know about you, but I am a fan of removing an odor instead of covering it up. Using a deodorizer creates a two-step process. Now you must clean your blanket and then deodorize it. This adds in the problem of further breaking down your blanket by adding more chemicals to the fabric. If your horse blanket wash is working correctly, this step is not necessary. Those odors are caused by a build up of grime, mold, mildew, fungus and/or bacteria. If you are removing these with an antibacterial wash, you will eliminate the odors, not cover them up. No one wants a horse blanket that has bacteria festering in it…and I certainly would not wear an anything with growing bacteria. And I certainly wouldn’t want to put that on my horse for months at a time!

“Save money by waterproofing your stable blanket”

Stable blankets are not meant to be waterproof. Adding wax or silicone to make them waterproof does not work and can ruin the breathability of your stable blanket. If you want a waterproof horse blanket, make sure you invest in a proper turn out sheet. Quality does matter!

Use a commercial wax or silicone to waterproof your horse blanket

Putting wax or silicone products on your horse blanket will create a waterproof film over the top of your fabric, and will prevent breathability. Horse blankets are not plastic. They need to be breathable to prevent irritations, bacteria buildup and keep your horse is healthy. If your horse is having troubles regulating its temperature, it can rapidly lose weight from the effort. Also, most of the products on the market require heat to melt or cure them onto the blanket. That heat, once again will destroy the factory applied waterproofing. When the added coating gets rubbed off and starts to degrade during natural wear, you will be left with nothing.

As soon as you get a new horse blanket, it is important to provide quality maintenance to preserve it’s longevity. Proper horse blanket care increases the durability of the horse blanket and increases its effectiveness. The type and quality of the fabric of your horse blanket, the tightness of the stitching, age, and how long caked on mud has sat on the blanket are all aspects that determine how long your blanket will remain waterproof. In fact, the several blanket manufacturers we work closely with, recommend that after the blanket’s second season of use, you should be waterproofing every year to maintain it’s effectiveness.

The products we use in our waterproofing wash-in’s and sprays are a diluted version of the factory applied waterproofer. They coat the fibers but leaves the weave open for breathability. The retailers and blanket manufactures we work with, and those that want to sell our products required this. We are pleased to offer it to you as well.

How to Wash Your Horse Blanket and Horse Gear

Wash Your Horse Blanket, How to wash your heavy weight horse blanket

We are often asked about different ways to use Blanket Safe for washing horse blankets, and how to get the best results. Can Blanket Safe wash light, medium or even heavy weight blankets in muck tubs, water troughs, or personal washing machines? Absolutely! You can use Blanket Safe with any washing method you wish. When using a smaller laundry machine or muck tub, make sure to get off any excess mud and debris before washing. This will make sure that you get a better result and preserve the machine. Keep reading to learn how to wash even your heavy weight horse blanket and horse gear, safely!

If you are going to a laundromat, it is especially important to take the time to do some pre-care. This is in the hope that you do not give equestrians all over the world a bad name. Take the time to use a hose, brush, broom, or even a power washer to remove any excess hair and mud before washing a horse blanket in a machine; especially one that is used for human clothing and bedding.

Follow these steps to wash your horse blanket and other gear:

  1. Knock, brush, or hose off excess hair, mud, and grime
  2. Attach all of the leg straps, tail straps, and metal clasps to themselves. Anywhere there is a snap, make sure to attach it. In addition, attach all tail straps back to their own D-ring so that they all start and finish in the same area. This helps avoid tangles, stretching, and breaking.
  3. Fold the blanket so the dirty part is on the inside. This allows the fabric to scrub against itself and gives you the best possible clean.
  4. Make sure your washing machine is big enough. Don’t use a machine with a center agitator. A horse blanket tangled around the agitator, may strain the motor and could destroy the machine. If the washing machine is too small, the water and dirt will not be able to escape, and the blanket will come out streaked with dirt. *A heavy weight will need more room than a light weight, or even a medium weight.
  5. Turn on the cold water setting. Cold water is essential. Hot water destroys factory applied waterproofing, causes shrinking, and destroys the fabric.
  6. Always follow the care labels on the blanket. Most say to run a gentle wash cycle. From my experience, I can tell you a gentle wash cycle may not get your horse blanket clean. You probably don’t need a heavy wash cycle; the normal wash works best for me.
  7. Hang the blanket to dry. So whether you decide to hang your blanket on a blanket rack of your choosing or the fence, you will be providing care according to the care labels. Make sure to never let your horse blankets bake in the heat for too long. This may also cause damage, and as a reminder, never use heat to dry your blanket.

A Few Bonus Tips:

  1. If you are washing wool gear never let it spin out in the washing machine. Make sure to stop the machine before that spin cycle to prevent devistating consequences to the natural fibers. If you don’t the wool will come out mated. Let wool dry naturally on a flat surface. You may notice that the wool naturally clumps up, have no fear. Once the wool is completely dry, a good brushing with a slicker brush will help restore the fluffiness to your product.
  2. We have a wash in waterproofer that can be added in during the final rinse cycle of your horse blanket wash. When you use this, you have to skip the spin cycle; otherwise, the waterproofer will be spun out of the blanket before it gets a chance to set. After the wash, you want as much water left on as possible so the waterproofing can dry into the fabric, therefore leaving behind a light water-repellent treatment once cured.
  3. Our other option for waterproofing is a spray. Ultimately, when the damp blanket finishes washing, and hung to dry, spray the water-repellent on liberally. Always use on damp fabric, and depending on what the blanket fabric type, and how tightly the stitch, it usually needs 24-72 hours to set into the blanket and cure.

When your blankets or other gear are clean and dry, it is essential to promptly store it properly. I like to hang my blankets up high year-round.  Horse blankets are very expensive. You don’t want mice to ruin your valuable gear, and they can easily find their way into plastic bags, totes, or canvas zipper bags. The best way to protect against mice if you can’t leave your blanket’s hanging is to use a tote or tack trunk and get it up high on a shelf.

Spring is coming, and you are probably getting ready to retire your horse blankets for the season. Make sure you wash your horse blankets immediately after they are done for the season, and not when getting ready to use them again next winter. The quicker you wash your horse blankets and remove all that mud and grime the longer they are going to last, and ultimately provide your horse a better service for years to come!
